Perhaps my favourite meal of all, is this spicy mussel curry.
This recipe was passed down from my paternal grandmother when they lived in Burma, present day Myanmar. I have of course, tweaked it a lot over the years. My experience with Goan cuisine from when I lived there, also influenced it.
There are so many things to love about this meal. The flavours, colours and textures of different ingredients and garnishing, coming together in such a rich way makes it an absolute favourite in our house.
This dish is inspired from the Burmese Khaosuey. My grandmother would cook it with chicken, but I switched chicken with mussels after I discovered the Goan dish of Tisreo.
I highly recommend experimenting with different garnishes.
I forgot to mention to add lemon juice in the recipe, so please don't forget that. The lemon juice really brings this whole thing together.
We often eat this in the autumn and winter months. It's great comfort food.
Serve with noodles and enjoy!
You can watch the video of how I made it down below. If you don't want to watch the whole video, then skip to the 5:33 minute mark.
I hope you enjoy making it.
